An Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane crashed near the Caspian Sea city of Aktau in Kazakhstan during an emergency landing, according to the Kazakh Transportation Ministry.
There were 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board, the ministry said in its Telegram channel. According to preliminary information, there are some survivors, Kazakhstan’s Emergency Situations Ministry said in its Telegram channel.
The flight was scheduled between Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, and Grozny in southern Russia, according to the transportation ministry. Footage, published by RBC media, shows a plane descending over the Aktau airport, followed by an explosion and smoke.
