Tampere Tramway Ltd., the City of Tampere and the Municipality of Pirkkala has appointed NRC Group Finland, a company wholly owned by NRC Group ASA (“NRC”) and YIT Finland as construction parties for the first phase of the construction of the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway.

The project will be implemented in two phases. The cost estimate of the phase 1 Partola-Niihama is around EUR 211,8 million, with NRC’s share amounting to appromaximately EUR 81 million.

“The first phase of the construction of the Pirkkala-Linnainmaa tramway in Tampere, is an important win for NRC Group and a testimonial to our solid collaboration in the alliance. The work will start at the end of year, where YIT and NRC Group Finland are responsible for the construction phase. Going forward, we believe this project can pave the way for other cities to choose sustainable transport” says Anders Gustafsson, CEO of NRC Group ASA.

The contract of the phase 1 includes construction of the tramway and the related street and traffic arrangements from Hatanpään valtatie to Partola in Pirkkala and from Tays to Niihama.

According to the preliminary project schedule, track construction is planned to commence in December 2024 and the first phase is scheduled for completion in August 2028.

The formal contractual signing of the contract of the phase 1 is expected to take place on 5th December 2024.
